My Relaxed Life

Wash Day and a Length Check

Today was wash day. Below are the products I used this week.

Wash Day 7/21/13

I didn’t prepoo my hair this week, because I planned to clarify/chelate this week. I brought a new shower head with a filter, so this was the perfect time to clarify.

1. I shampooed with Olive Oil Creamy Aloe Shampoo. This my staple clarifying shampoo. Leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean, but not at all stripped.

2. Did a protein treatment using Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus. I liked this protein treatment. I didn’t feel like it was full of unicorn tails and completely amazing, but I’ll continue to use it.

3. Deep conditioned with Silk Dreams Hair Care (SDHC) Chocolate Bliss Conditioner for about 3 hours. I got busy doing things around the house.

I didn’t really have to do much detangling. Like always, the Chocolate Bliss Conditioner pretty much melted my tangles away. I did a quick length check and did a mini dusting of my ends. My ends look in good shape, but I feel like I noticed a little thinning on my left side. It’s really hard to tell for sure, because I have varying degrees of mid-strand texlaxed hair that could be causing shrinkage.  I also have having some serious paranoia about my hair thinning since my setback earlier this year. Anyway, I won’t be able to tell for sure until I flat iron, and I won’t be doing that until my September relaxer. If it is thinning I’m just going to chalk it up to the game. Once I hit BSL I’ll keep trimming until it grows in. Below is the length check picture:

July 2013 Length Check

Sorry for the crappy quality picture, and my hair was wet. I’m happy with my growth, and my ends look good for now. I should make BSL this year, and I’ll probably kick it there for a while. I need to focus on thickening up my hair vs. focusing on length.

After I air dried my hair I wrapped it up into a bun, and it’ll stay there until I braid it up for a braid out next week.

Recent Hair Buys

I’ve only brought two hair related things lately.

The first is Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus.
This is a protein conditioner that I have been wanting for a LOOOONNG time. Jeni from Just Grow Already mentioned how great this is, and I’ve seen it on other blogs as well. I wanted to use up all of my Aphogee 2-min Reconstructor before I brought this one though. I happened to be in Wal-Mart and saw it on sale in their salon, and I had to get it. I haven’t tried it, but I am due for a protein treatment this weekend so I will be trying this.

The second item I got was is a new shower head with a filter. This may not sound hair related, but we have hard water in my apartment. I swear that hard water has been drying out my hair and my skin since we moved here. I purchased this one from Amazon. It came in two days with Amazon Prime, and the installation was relatively easy. I’m not mechanically inclined and I didn it all on my own. I haven’t washed my hair with it, but I could definitely tell the difference with my skin.

I’m running out of some of my staple products so more product buys will be coming soon.

Random Hair Thoughts #1

I’ve really been neglecting my hair lately. I’ve mostly only been cowashing and bunning. It’s really hard to find time to do anything else, but I promise to give my hair some TLC this weekend.

In about 2-3 weeks I plan to get a sew-in. My goal is to wear that sew-in until my next relaxer in September. I’m a little nervous about the stylist causing a setback when installing my sew-in. I just don’t trust folks’ hands in my hair, but I’m sure it will be fine. I’m considering flat ironing before my install so she won’t have to comb through my new growth and texlaxed sections, but I really didn’t want to use direct heat again until September.

I really need to dust my ends. I know that it is suggested to do it on flat iron hair, but I’m probably just going to do it on my air dried hair. My hair air dries relatively straight anyway. I’ll be washing my hair this weekend, so I will try to make time this weekend for a wash day post. No promises, but I will try.

Quick Wash Day Post

I’m currently on vacation, so this is a quick post from my phone.

I washed my hair on 2 July. This was a very quick and easy wash day for me.
1. Prepoo’d with Hair Trigger Growth Elixir
I used Hair Trigger to prepoo so I could finish up the last of the bottle. I only prepoo’d for about an hour.
2. Shampoo’d with Creme of Nature (CON) Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo.
This is my staple moisturizing shampoo. I normally wash my hair in 4 sections to prevent tangling, but now that my hair is not texlaxed and I’m only 1.5 weeks post that wasn’t really necessary.
3. Conditioned with Aubrey Organics White Camellia Ultra-smoothing Conditioner for about 2-3 mins.
4. Towel dried hair and applied KeraPro Restorative Treatment for Dry to Extremely Dry Hair.
This is one of my staple deep conditioners. I deep conditioned for a little over an hour while working out. As always this conditioner did not disappoint. Once I air dried my hair is was soft and fluffy, and it’s still soft days later.
Once my hair was mostly dry, I applied Darcy Botanicals Lemongrass Transitioning Creme and sealed with Grapeseed oil. I’m currently wearing my hair in a braid out with clip-in extensions. I’ll probably wear my hair like this until I return home from my vacation.

July Hair Goals

In a previous post I mentioned that I will now be doing my goals month by month. Here are my goals for July 2013:

july goals

In case you cannot see the picture my goals are:
1. Bun 5 out of 7 days a week
2. Switch up bun style every week
3. Apply growth aid at least every other day.

I plan to keep my goals simple and obtainable for July. Since I am in the military and I have to bun my hair for work Monday through Friday anyway the first one should be no problem. The second goal is for me to branch out of my same ‘ol boring bun and to ensure that I switch up the position in which I bun. The third goal is a push for me to be consistent with a growth aid that I’ve recently purchased (review will come later). What are your goals for the month of July?

Happy Hair Growing,
